September 5, 2007
2162 Arnason Road

Present: Nik, Paul, Cheridy, Alister, Lynne, Shannon, Stuart, Colette, April, Annie, Linda
Came to order at 7:45 p.m.

Old Business:

Officers' Reports:
1. Officers: Colette called for a copy of the warranting paperwork each officer mailed to their Superior Officer.

2. A & S: Shannon - In addition to her written report (see Appendices below), she made mention of Kathy's Japanese armour that was set up at the demo, like another body sitting at the table.

3. Herald: Nik - In addition to his written report (see Appendices below), he expressed a need for heraldic representation of Crown and Coronet at our events, and suggested we might have an A & S night to create some. He also suggested that North Cragmere might undertake to have more heraldry (and suggested a Red Swan such as that he brought to display in the home's front window). Annie added that she was available to plan a 2-hour class; see New Business.

4. Exchequer: Linda - (see Appendices below); there was a quick listing of non-cash assets, but noted that this must be done later; after reading out the last point of her report, she indicated that Annie was ready, willing, and able to be her successor, should Council be willing to accept her; the proposal was accepted.

5. Library: Stuart - It's outdated, with stuff pulled from the Internet. Much discussion as to how valuable that might be. An A & S will be held at the Tingles' to determine usefulness, and to organize.

6. Web minister and secretary: "Halima has graciously consented to stay on as Web minister and as Seneschale's Secretary. Meredith is extremely grateful!"

7. Seneschale: Colette - (see Appendices below); the demo could have used more of our people, especially in the fighting department. Shannon mentioned needing our contact information in the Recreation Reporter; Colette will take care of that.

The MoS, Kirk, was not at the demo, nor the last 3 councils. Discussion ensued. Colette will contact Kirk.

Constitution discussion: The proposed constitution will be posted by Colette for perusal and opinions; next council, we will discuss it, amend as needed, and approve it.

A&S report for September 2007

It was a quiet summer until the Comox Valley Fall Fair. At the fair our people put forth a magnificent display of arts and sciences spread throughout 5 pavilions.
Ulric set up his armouring workshop to the fascination of many.
Aleyn had a display of the medieval instruments he had made and demonstrated and discussed the history of the instruments and of his falconry gear and western medieval martial arts materials with all comers (rarely getting a chance to sit down.)
Halima and Anicia put together a display of the spectrum of fiber arts that was more extensive than the one put out by the local weaver's club, including box , tablet and loom weaving, spindle and wheel spinning, blackwork embroidery, and the weaving done by twisting threads-name unknown.
Dorrieanne is working on her first box weaving ( I think it is to be a belt).
Kathy is doing leather carving, and has completed a Celtic cross and two other pieces.
In all an exhausting but very worthwhile weekend for A&S in Cragmere.

Herald's report for council, the 5th of September, 2007, AS XLII

My lady, the sayyida Halima, has whipped together a simple herald's tabard, of a white damask, outlined in red, with the red swan badge of cragmere, upon its breast, in time for our Fall Fair Demo. It looks pretty decent. We had a fair display of heraldry at our display tents, which added much to the ambience. Morel had planned to have a heraldry table, but it did not materialize, and I can't help but feel it may have, had I supported her a little bit more. If we do this next year , we're having a heraldry table.
M'lady Annya (Erin), has expressed interest in vox heraldry. I recomend she take an ithra class, and, if she feels ready, hope to employ her at our Autumn revel.
I'd like to see a heraldry table at the Autumn Revel.
Last I heard, Morel was still working on Anicia's device.
I think our branch badge, the Red Swan, is really special, and think we should display it more.... Maybe a banner making arts and science day can be planned.
I'd love to see our members in Campbell River have a red swan banner.

Yours in service, Le Sieur Charles le Verdier, herald of the Shire of Cragmere

Sept 05/07 report from the Exchequer

Past Activity

Current balance in the regular account: $1489.14. Last year at this time, it was $1614.90. We now carry inventory to the amount of $104.00.
Expenses for the Armada must be considered complete.

The Principality Exchequer reviewed the shire financial records at the Ravensley event on the first weekend of August. Some minor changes were made (maintain a running balance in the chequebook as well as the journal; use the cheque request form for -all- cheques written), and a branch financial policy is about to be sent to Kingdom for approval. We will be informed as to whether our branch should submit a budget to Kingdom (I suggested that our small size made the budget irrelevant: we're always looking to raise the income and reduce expenses).

We are required to maintain a list of non-cash assets; I will need everyone's help on that (i.e. who has a Swan's Guard cloak, and where are the unused ones kept? i.e. A & S - we have paints and what else? i.e. Who had the listfield equipment and what else is there?) I must have all this well before the end of September to include in my report to Principality. Thanks for helping!

Expected Activity
Aurea/Jennifer is not able to take on the exchequer position; therefore, I am looking for a deputy who will be my successor. Apply now!

Seneschale’s report – Sept. '07

Demo – I was totally pleased with the overall product. We did very VERY well. (The Fall Fair People want us back next year!) The folks that turned out: Meredith and Ulric
Alyn and Annicia and Annya
Halima and Nik
Doireanne
Aelfgar and Arianna and children
We handed out more than 200 bits of paperwork; if felt like folks were interested. We can only wait and see who turns up for the Pot Luck! I would like a reminder of that in the newspapers a bit before.

On a different note... I am not so happy with the fact that we had no MoS at the demo. Also with the fact that I have had complaints about our MoS.

We still need to have input for the Constitution; please think about it.

I would like our Public Profile to be higher (folks were coming up to us saying they had no idea we were here) so, the Demo Halima is working on? the Christmas Parade? And/Or?

We should be going to 12th. night. This is our opportunity to see a Kingdom level Court with all that means in the way of getting folks Gouttes and Jambes.

Minutes webbed by Linda J. Doerksen; if you have any comments or corrections, call 703-0494 and let Linda know what they are.
